How the credit is paid
Octopus pays the credit once the new customer is on supply and their first monthly direct debit has been taken. It says the whole process typically takes around four weeks, and can take longer if the previous supplier delays the switch.
To check it has arrived, open the Octopus app and go to the Bills tab, where it appears as a referral reward of £50. On the website, go to Payments, scroll to the bottom and choose View My Balance History.
Why the credit doesn't stack with comparison-site offers
Octopus explains that it pays third parties for every customer they send. If it also paid the referral reward on top, it would lose money on each new customer, so it only pays referral credit when someone joins directly through the link. If you want the £50, start from the referral link rather than a comparison site.
